Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What do you charge for your commissions?

A: Please see Commission Pricing Sheets for full pricing details.

Q: How do I request a commission or get a quote on a commission?

A: Please message me through the Contact page or direct email brookgatlingart@gmail.com for your personalized quote. Inform me of the size you would like and if you'd like multiple pets in one portrait or objects. I will respond to you as promptly as possible.

Q: What are your reference photo requirements and what makes a good photo?

A: In order to get the best possible likeness a high resolution digital photo needs to be provided. An ideal photo would be in natural light with face (or full body) at eye level of pet. A non ideal photo would be dark, flash on with pet face angle taken from above or below.

Q: Do you offer refunds on pet portraits?

A: I regret I do not offer refunds on portraits that I've already begun, completed, and shipped.

Q: What materials do you use for pet portraits?
A: I use 500 Series Strathmore Bristol Plate and Vellum acid free and archival quality 100% cotton paper. I use Caran D'Ache Luminance, Faber Castell Polychromos, and Staedtler Lumograph pencils. I also use Cretacolor Nero charcoal oil pencils, charcoal powder, and graphite powder in combination depending on the need and feel of the portrait.

Q: What does lightfast mean in reference to Caran D'Ache Luminance and Faber Castell Polychromos color pencils as your materials?

A: The lightfastness or permanence of a pigment is its resistance to change on exposure to light. The quality of the color pencils I use for commissioned portraits "are intended for exhibition, collection and museum purposes."

Q: What are your prints in the Shop Prints page printed on?

A: Giclee prints on premium archival fine art Moab Entrada Rag Natural 300lb for all prints in all sizes.

Q: How do you ship commission portraits and prints?

A: All art shipped is carefully packaged in clear, resealable art sleeves with an acid free backer board, and an extra ridged mailer or box depending on size.
